Kitchen Parties

Here is your place to find information about up-coming Harbour Folk events.  Our Kitchen Parties are normally held on the third Saturday of the month.  They are open to both members and non-members.  Admission is by donation and we suggest a minimum of $5.00 per person.  Eighty per cent of the money taken in at the door goes directly to the performers, who do not receive any additional payment.  The remainder goes towards Harbour Folk's administrative costs such as our web page and SOCAN membership. Please do not forget to place your money in the donation pot when you arrive.

The evening begins with a short open mike segment after which there is usually a Featured Performer or Group for the first part of the evening.  After the break there are additional open mike segments available. The music starts at 8:00 p.m. with the doors opening a little earlier.  Everyone is welcome to listen and/or participate in the open sessions.  During the break, tea, coffee and goodies are available for purchase. All proceeds from the the sale of food and drink go to the Cole Harbour Heritage Farm Museum who have generously allowed us to use the Tea Room for our musical events.

Leo Feinstein

Featured Performer - January Kitchen Party & Farm Benefit

Saturday, January 21st 2012  8:00 p.m.

The feature performer for this month is Leo Feinstein.  Although technically from New England, Leo is now a familiar face on the HRM folk scene.  Since his initial visit several years ago, he has been spending more and more time in Nova Scotia each year sharing his songs and participating in local music events.  With a style reminiscent of the late Fred Redden, Leo's repertoire contains a wide variety of traditional songs and stories drawn from a number of different music and folklore traditions.

On Saturday night, Leo plans to lead a Hootenanny style sing along, sharing a wide variety of musical styles with lots of choruses and opportunities for audience participation.  Bring your voices and join in the fun, shake off the January blahs and generally blow the roof off winter.

The Rose and Kettle will have its usual selection of delicious baking available, as well as tea and coffee.  There will also be lots of open mike opportunities both before and after the feature set.  All monies collected during the evening will be donated to the Farm as a token of our appreciation, so we hope that you will be able to come out and contribute to this very worthy cause as well as enjoying some some excellent music and singing.
