In 2005, Harbour Folk Society celebrated its 25th anniversary. The Society was formed in 1980 by Sandy Greenberg, Patrick Purcell and friends to be a "performer friendly" venue for fellow musicians. Others instrumental in building the Society in the beginning included, Dave Chapman, Dave Halley, Jamie Moreira, Hugh Williamson and Jon Stone.
In the beginning years, Harbour Folk Society met for monthly pub nights at the Treasure Cove Lounge, in the Belmont Hotel, which was at the corner of Ochterloney Street and Alderney Drive. The Belmont has since been torn down and a new office complex, Belmont House, was built on the same space.
